Call for Submissions until 21st of July; Festival: 5. bis 7. September 2023
We are thrilled to announce the new edition of Sound Campus, a sound-art festival within Ars Electronica and Kunstuniversität Linz program, taking place between the 5th and 7th of September 2023.
Embracing a collective and non-hierarchical approach, this year’s Sound Campus emphasizes the fluidity of sound expression and music making. Through notions of performance and improvisation, a multidimensional stage provides a caring frame for solidarity and creation.
To stimulate the dialogue in an open space set-up, we invite sound artists, performers, musicians and everyone interested to contribute to the program, in the following categories:
Call for Submissions!
Open scores allow free interpretation, improvisation, and experimental approaches to performance. They provide a framework rather than fixed instructions, encouraging performers to engage with the composition in unique and innovative ways.
The traditional role of the composer, interpreter and the audience are blurring in the face of open scores. So, let's disrupt the hierarchy in music, allowing everyone to perform according to their own needs and pleasure!
The selected proposals will be gathered and exhibited as a set that can be navigated, potentially re-enacted, or imagined by the audience during Sound Campus 2023. By being part of this setting, each piece enters in dialogue with many other, and takes new forms and versions as interpretations unfold in the eyes of the audience.
Please take note that there is no artist fee for this category.

This call is open to everyone who wants to share their scores and scripts to be exhibited in an open space.

Listening together. On-Ground and On-Air
Nowadays, our files and music productions are shared through social media, within our own networks, possibly related to online visibility or an "artistic" connection. In the case of amateur productions, we might all have a track in a "secret" SoundCloud account or a song that we once created out of boredom but never shared.
In this category we would like to provide a platform for individuals and collectives to share unique soundscapes, narratives, music mixes, spoken word performances, experimental sounds and beats. An open stream challenges the traditional boundaries of radio programming, inviting diverse voices and perspectives to intersect in a shared sonic space.
If you have a self-produced work to contribute to an open radio stream you are welcome to apply for this year's edition of Sound Campus.
Additionally, your sounds will be spread around the city of Linz in a sound mobile station* built by the artist Lama Ghanem
Please take note that there is no artist fee for this category.
Eligibility
Sound Campus Open Stream is open to everyone who wants to share their sounds to be streamed in the radio broadcast of Sound Campus and around the city in a mobile installation.
Format
Submissions can be in any format suitable for radio broadcasting. Don’t hesitate to share any pre-recorded mixes, DIY, spoken word recordings, soundscapes, experimental compositions, interviews, or any other format.
Submissions should not exceed 15 min.
