Curator Talk with Martin Sturm

November 4, 5 p.m. University of Arts Linz, Domgasse 1, Room DO0115, 4020 Linz

The Department of Sculptural Conceptions / Ceramics invites.

Martin Sturm (born 1957 in Gmunden, Austria) is a museum director and curator who has profoundly shaped the contemporary art and cultural landscape of Upper Austria over more than three decades. After studying German Studies, American Cultural Studies, and Adult Education at the University of Innsbruck, he began working in the cultural administration of the Province of Upper Austria in 1987.

From 1992 to 2022, Sturm directed the Open Cultural House (OK Centrum) in Linz – later the Upper Austrian Cultural Quarter (OÖ Kulturquartier) – where he was responsible for numerous exhibitions and interdisciplinary projects. During his tenure, major initiatives such as Höhenrausch were realized. Other well-known Linz-based cultural projects, including Crossing Europe, NEXTCOMIC, and Ars Electronica, were also actively supported by him. Sturm has curated over one hundred art projects, exemplifying an open, networked, and experimental approach to cultural work in Upper Austria.
