Anna Wolf
Semesterarbeit 2008/2009
“What does it mean to build a kindergarten in the city and (how) can architecture support a new educational concept?
The very urban situation of the building site is the main topic of my design concept. Like the idea of a forest kindergarten, CITYkindergarten uses the city as a playground. The space allocation plan changes because the infrastructure of the city which is useful and reachable within 15 minutes, becomes part of the kindergarten: museums, theaters, swimming baths, playgrounds and of course the city itself as a place you can learn from.
By doing that I want to facilitate a connection to the public and start a thinking process about (urban) space and education for children.
The kindergarten also gives back space to the city. Gym, polycalent room, therapy and doctor’s practice are planned to be used by the children as well as the public.
The functions of the kindergarten are spread over the building site, like the infrastructure of the city is spread all over the town. By making a reconstruction the regulations, to make one compact building are bypassed. This makes the connection between the small buildings very important. A huge terrace serves this purpose and structures the space.
A soft masterplan for perimeter block development is used to explore this strategy in a lager dimension and different contexts.”
