Cornelia Herfurtner in conversation with Bettina Siegele at at Sculptural Conceptions / Ceramics.
Cornelia Herfurtner is a sculptor and lives in Berlin. She works both under her real name and in various collective contexts.
Since summer 2020 she has been working on the theme of passive armament. This is a legal construction valid in the Federal Republic of Germany that allows the carrying or carrying of everyday and protective objects at demonstrations to be criminalized. Apart from repressive court rulings, she came across a multitude of practices of self-protection at demonstrations that are used worldwide. For this cycle of works, she learned wood carving and works primarily in lime wood.
The artist is committed to stopping the production and export of arms from the Federal Republic of Germany.
