GLOBAL HOME Naturpfad

In the Capital of Culture year Salzkammergut 2024 By the stream at the outdoor pool in St. Konrad

Interplay between man and nature

The sculpture by Herbert Egger, who teaches sculpture - transmedia space, becomes a small-scale ecosystem that functions according to the plans and laws of nature.

In St. Konrad near Gmunden, the residents can decide how long Herbert Egger's sculpture remains standing. The artist, who teaches Sculpture - Transmedia Space at the University of Arts Linz, has built a house out of wooden slats by the stream near the outdoor pool for plants and animals to move into. People remain outside as silent observers, because Egger's "Global Home" sees itself as a home for nature.

"Humanity is growing, it lives in symbiosis with nature. Where mankind expands, nature must give way or change. The right amount of use of nature will always remain an issue. Nature will take possession of this sculpture, a spectacle of condensed life will begin: fauna and flora will gradually colonize, conquer and occupy YOUR house. A small-scale ecosystem will emerge that will function according to the plans and laws of nature. Nature has time, no deadlines, no opening hours, no end. Man remains outside as a silent observer."
