May 30 to June 16, 2025 Viktoria, Viktoriagasse 5, 1150 Vienna
Exhibition and performance series by Marta Beauchamp, PhD candidate at Interface Cultures.
Curator: Sarah Kolb, Department of Art History and Theory / Gender Studies / Curatorial Practice
Routines mould life to a steady pace, attempting to align everyday life to an archetype of the everyday: whether consciously or instinctively, living beings shape their activity around the rhythms of their environment and oscillate together with it in daily waves of action and rest in seamless balance, until sudden change hinders this flow.
Light injuries explores the points of rupture of this equilibrium, the timing misalignment between environment and organism, addressing the damage that light can provoke when shining at unnatural times. In a mixed media installation and performance, Marta Beauchamp transmediates the findings of five scientific articles which investigate the consequences of altered light rhythms on the health of plants and animals.
