SYMPOSIUM

Fans & Fangs a vampiric fan culture symposium

May 22, 2025, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. University of Arts Linz, Hauptplatz 8, 5th floor, lecture hall

Julia Grillmayr, Professor of Cultural Studies, invites you to the symposium.

What does it mean to be a fan? What are fans doing and what motivates them? And: How to research the multifaceted phenomenon “fandom” from a cultural studies perspective? In the framework of the seminar „Fangs & Fans“, we are approaching these questions by focusing on vampire fictions and their fans and fan practices. Come to our symposium where we share preliminary findings, deep-dive into case studies and discuss with experts in the field:

10 to 12 p.m. welcome, introduction & round table with contributions by the fan culture scholars Julia Elena Goldmann, Ariane Manutscheri and Daniel Syrovy

12 to 13 p.m. snacks & posters by students of “Fangs & Fans”

13 to 14 p.m. round table with contributions by the students of “Fangs & Fans”
