Friederike Fröbel (Berlin, GER) is a researcher at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and a PhD candidate at the Design Research Lab at the University of the Arts Berlin (UdK Berlin). With a background in clothing technology (BSc) and media informatics (MSc), her research focuses on the intersection of technology, research and design, with a particular interest in human-computer interaction (HCI) and design research. Her research explores the creation of interactive interfaces that go beyond traditional screen-based interactions. In her doctoral research, she is applying this approach to co-create and develop a low-threshold, do-it-yourself (DIY) information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure that aims to strengthen the climate resilience and digital sovereignty of rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, using decolonial and participatory methods.
In her teaching, she emphasises a hands-on, collaborative approach, encouraging participants to experiment and learn from each other.
