In consonance with an art tradition that draws its rules from external systems, this project aims to shed light on the method I employ to produce works starting from scientific publications. The project thematically focuses on entrainment, a dynamic feature of biological rhythms. The transmediation of selected scientific reports on entrainment into installations lies at the core of the investigation: to explore the tipping point of its feasibility, testing the medial affordances of the media of text and sound and heat installations. This enquiry connects my chronobiology work with my sound art practice: I reflect on the site of the installation as a place to experience a certain rhythmical phenomenon transmediated by my artistic practice.
By focussing on the translation of neuroscience topics into visual and auditory experiences, Marta Beauchamp (born 1990, IT/UK) shapes an interface through which to materially encounter this process. She is interested in the difference between understanding based on keeping-in-mind and understanding through experiencing. Sound and objects allow her to inflate dense scientific topics to room-scale installations which offer more space and dimensions for comprehension.
