Map as an Interface

December 5, 2025, from 5:40 p.m. KAPU, Kapuzinerstr. 36, 4020 Linz

The Interface Cultures department invites you to a guest lecture by Vladan Joler as part of Saint Interface.

The session positions maps as dynamic interfaces, spaces where data, narrative, and critique converge. Not as passive representations but as active interfaces that shape our understanding of power, extraction, and the hidden architectures of the digital world.

Vladan Joler is an academic, researcher and artist whose work blends data investigations, counter-cartography, investigative jour-nalism, writing, data visualisation, critical design and numerous other disciplines. His work explores and visualises different tech-nical and social aspects of algorithmic transparency, digital labour exploitation, invisible infrastructures and many other contemporary phenomena in the intersection between technology and society. In his own projects as well as collaborations such as Anatomy of an AI with Kate Crawford or Nooscope with Matteo Pasquinelli, mapping is used as a means of understanding complex assemblages.

At 4.35 p.m. Rosa Menkman will give a lecture on the topic "Beyond Resolution".

'Sankt Interface' is an artistic project organized by Interface Cultures, which also serves as the annual celebration of the department.
