Gudrun Rath is a cultural scientist and senior researcher at the University of Arts Linz. After studying Romance and German philology in Vienna and Madrid, she was a fellow in the interdisciplinary cultural studies graduate program "The Figure of the Third" at the University of Konstanz. Doctorate at the University of Vienna. Research and teaching at the Universities of Heidelberg, Vienna, Constance and at the University of Artsn Linz; where she conducted research on transatlantic narratives of the undead as part of an FWF-Elise-Richter position; habilitation at the University of Constance; 2017-2025 member of the "Junge Akademie" of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

2016 Outstanding Artist Award of the Federal Chancellery for Art and Culture (category: interdisciplinarity) for the project "Graus der Geschichte" (together with Rosa Danner, Nils Olger, Paula Pfoser and Renée Winter).

At the University of Arts Linz, she is part of the research board and the working group on the history of buildings.

Gudrun Rath researches and teaches on cultural, translation and narrative theories, dead body politics, workers' history, memory politics, the history of museum and scientific collections as well as colonial and entanglement history (especially Europe-America) - most recently as part of the BMKÖS project "Colonial Infrastructures" at the Vienna Technical Museum.
