The University of Arts Linz, in collaboration with Verlag für moderne Kunst (VFMK), publishes a selection of artists' books - the “Edition Kunstuniversität Linz”.
The University offers members of the artistic-academic staff and alumni the opportunity to submit their intended work for publication. External lecturers are excluded from funding. External lecturers are not eligable for funding. Furthermore, the Edition Kunstuniversität Linz does not provide funding for final theses.
Submissions should be high-quality, conceptually well-developed and artistically ambitious publications. A key criterion is that the medium of the book itself must be treated as the subject of the design concept. Portfolios or exhibition catalogues are not eligible for funding under this call for proposals.
Decisions on inclusion in the University of Arts Linz’s new funding programme are made at the quarterly awards meeting. Funding of up to EUR 8,000 may be applied for. Submissions must include a breakdown of costs, which must in all cases cover the costs of professional image processing, layout, editing, printing and, where applicable, translation, as well as details of any additional sources of funding. Layout proposals must also form part of the submission.
Only verifiable costs relating to the publication may be claimed; this means that reimbursement will only be made retrospectively upon presentation of evidence of the costs actually incurred. Under no circumstances may the costs set out in the submitted cost estimate be exceeded. Such funding may be awarded no more than once per person per calendar year. By submitting the application, the applicant undertakes to use any funding received solely for the costs of the submitted publication project in accordance with its intended purpose, or, should the publication subsequently prove unfeasible, to repay any funding received immediately and in full.
Applications can be submitted at any time via calls.kunstuni-linz.at. Applications must be received no later than two weeks before the quarterly award meetings in order to be considered. At the award meetings, decisions on the applications are made in the form of a (non-binding) recommendation to the Rectorate. The final decision on the award of funding is made by the Rectorate.
