Bachelor Programme

Master Programme

In future, all pupils aged 10 - 18/19 will be taught by uniformly trained teachers.

Since the 2016/17 academic year, ten universities from Upper Austria and Salzburg (see "Partner institutions"), which have joined forces to form a regional network under the name "Cluster Mitte", have jointly offered a teacher training program for secondary education, i.e. teaching at NMS, polytechnic schools, special schools, AHS, BMHS (general education subjects).

The teacher training programs offered at the University of Art and Design Linz Visual Arts Education, Design: Technology.Textile, Media Design can be combined with all teacher training programs of the "Cluster Mitte" . Together with the Linz University College of Teacher Education, the Johannes Kepler University, the Catholic Private University and the Anton Bruckner Private University, a total of 19 teacher training programs are offered at the Linz location.

The degree (Bachelor's and Master's) is the basis for a teaching profession at new secondary schools (NMS), general secondary schools (AHS) or vocational secondary schools (HAK, HAS, HLW, HTL) or at polytechnic schools (PTS). The universities offer a professional environment for a practice-oriented and science-based course of study. After completing the Master's program, students have the option of continuing on to a doctoral program.

Duration / degree
Bachelor: 8 semesters (240 EC), degree "Bachelor of Education" (BEd.)
Master: 4 semesters (120 EC), "Master of Education" (MEd.)

  • 4 years of full-time study for Bachelor's degree
  • 2 years of full-time study for the Master's degree (or part-time completion of the Master's degree)
  • Degree entitles the holder to teach at school levels 5 to 13
  • Practical pedagogical studies at the beginning of the course
  • Either two teaching subjects or one teaching subject with the specialization "Inclusive Education" can be studied.
  • Optional after completing the Master's degree: doctoral studies at a university

LiLeS - Service Center - Linz Secondary School Teacher Training:
The educational institutions have set up a new service center for all new students from winter semester 2019/20 at the Linz location in the Cluster Mitte.
