Objective of the BIP:

The Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) Move with What Unfolds creates a platform for international collaboration and critical reflection on environmentally responsible approaches to contemporary printmaking. As traditional printmaking techniques such as intaglio and etching often rely on hazardous chemicals and resource-intensive processes, participants are encouraged to explore sustainable alternatives, including copper sulfate etching, photopolymer plates, water-based inks, and other non-toxic printmaking methods.

The programme pursues a dual objective. On the one hand, it provides participants with practical and conceptual knowledge of sustainable printmaking, expanding their technical skills while encouraging critical thinking about ecological responsibility in artistic production. On the other hand, it fosters intercultural dialogue and strengthens international networks among emerging artists and educators. Through collaboration across institutional and national boundaries, participants gain new perspectives on sustainable studio practice and reconsider the role of traditional printmaking within contemporary artistic and social contexts.

The BIP combines three virtual preparatory sessions with an intensive one-week physical mobility hosted by the University of Arts Linz. The online component establishes a shared theoretical framework and introduces key artistic positions addressing sustainability in contemporary printmaking. A particular highlight is the guest lecture by Bess Frimodig, whose artistic and research-based practice explores the intersection of ecological responsibility, material experimentation, and contemporary printmaking. These virtual encounters provide participants with a common point of departure for the collaborative work that follows in Linz.

During the physical mobility, the focus shifts to collective artistic production within the printmaking studios of the University of Arts Linz. Rather than simply learning technical processes, participants engage in an open exchange of methods, ideas, and experiences. Individual artistic approaches evolve through dialogue, experimentation, and collaborative making, allowing sustainable printmaking to be understood not only as a technical methodology but also as an artistic attitude.

The programme culminates in the development of new artworks presented in the public exhibition Move with What Unfolds, opening on 27 March 2026 at Paramentik in Linz. The exhibition forms an integral part of the BIP, providing a platform where artistic processes, ecological awareness, and international collaboration become visible to a wider audience. It serves not only as a presentation of finished works but also as a reflection on the shared creative journey and the questions that emerged throughout the programme.

The programme brings together ten students and four teaching staff members from the partner institutions in Vilnius and Szczecin, who work alongside students from the University of Arts Linz. Within this shared studio environment, participants encounter diverse artistic methodologies, educational perspectives, and cultural backgrounds while strengthening their international and intercultural competences.

Ultimately, Move with What Unfolds contributes to the broader objectives of the Erasmus+ Programme by promoting sustainable artistic practice, ecological awareness, and European cooperation in higher arts education. It demonstrates how international exchange can become a catalyst for innovation, critical reflection, and artistic experimentation. At the same time, it establishes a long-term framework for collaboration between the participating institutions, ensuring that sustainable approaches to printmaking continue to evolve within their academic programmes and artistic communities.
