As part of the Long Night of Research 2026, the Department of Art and Visual Practices presented current artistic research projects and invited visitors to experience research as an open and experimental process. The focus was on sustainable material practices, artistic research, and collaborative approaches.
With the HALLO ERDE project, research approaches on regenerative cycles, material experiments, and sustainable design were presented. The Co-Lab Mycelial Space explored the potential of fungi as active participants in ecological systems and as sustainable materials. Students presented artistic research projects focusing on mycelium, fungal pigments, spore prints, and mycoremediation. A sound installation with living fungi opened up new perspectives on materiality, perception, and ecological relationships.
Both projects represent the research focus Sustainable and Critical Design – Transformative Research and Education within the Department of Art and Design. They demonstrate how artistic research can initiate sustainable design processes and open up new perspectives on the responsible engagement with materials, environments, and social transformation.
