FILMSCREENING

Diagonale - Festival of Austrian Film 2026

March 18 to 23, 2026 Annenhofkino and Schubertkino, Graz

Students, teachers and graduates of the University of Art and Design Linz will also be showing their films at the Diagonale Film Festival in 2026.

The Diagonale - Festival of Austrian Film sees itself as a forum for the presentation and discussion of Austrian film productions. The aim and task of the Diagonale is the differentiated, multi-layered and critical examination of Austrian cinema as well as to bring this filmmaking to the attention of the media and thus to the public discourse. Accordingly, filmmakers and their works are the focus of the festival, which, with its accentuated program selection, offers a unique opportunity to get to know Austrian filmmaking in all its diversity, to trace current artistic trends and to make many a cinematic (re)discovery.

Contributions from students, graduates and lecturers

Baba, What's Your Plan? / Baba, Ne Yapmayı Düşünüyorsun?
Tolga Karaaslan / Time-Based Mediastudent

Celal Karaaslan asks his son what he should do with his life. Otherwise, he always had the answers. Characterized by physically demanding work and cancer, Celal is no longer able to work. However, his question initiates a journey together.

Baba, What's Your Plan? is a quiet retelling of moving, harrowing and almost shattering moments. For Celal and Tolga, this intimate retracing opens up a space for reflection that extends far beyond private family memories. In the inevitable confrontation with borders, bureaucracy and political hurdles, the probing of Celal's biography emphasizes the necessity of a solidary understanding of work, health and care as a social responsibility.
