SCHNITTSTELLE x 80

January 14, 2026, 6:30 p.m. University of Arts Linz, Hauptplatz 8, 4th floor, Lecture Theatre

The Department of Visual Communication invites you to a guest lecture with Martin Lorenz.

The recently released book The FVS Atlas (Viction:ary) shows that designers worldwide have fully embraced the paradigm shift from static to flexible. While in the last century, the identity revolved around logos, representing a message, this century is about systems functioning as flexible visual languages. This shift will have profound implications for how we relate to the world. Prof Dr Martin Lorenz will speak about what Flexible Visual Systems are, how they became this century's approach to designing visual identities and what's next.

Prof. Dr. Martin Lorenz initially studied Communication Design at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, but then graduated in Type/Graphic Design at the KABK in The Hague. In 2007, he founded TwoPoints.Net with Lupi Asensio. While setting up the studio, Lorenz completed a master's and doctorate in Systems Design at the University of Barcelona. He is currently a Social, System, and Type Design lecturer in three bachelor's and master's programs at Elisava Barcelona and a Motion Identity and Kinetic Type lecturer at the Film Academy Ludwigsburg. Lorenz is deputy director of studies and professor at the University of Cooperative Education (BA-Nord), head of the Conversational Design Studio at the not-for-profit organization Dark Matter Labs, and a partner at Coding Systems. His book Flexible Visual Systems has been published in English, Spanish, and Japanese.

"Schnittstelle" is the established lecture series of the Department of Visual Communication at the University of Arts Linz. The series brings together artists, designers, curators and authors who create innovative connections between design, photography, art, performance and research in their work. With a focus on interdisciplinary approaches and the intersection of different media and disciplines, the lectures offer exciting insights into creative processes and promote exchange beyond the boundaries of traditional design.
