Can't sleep

Johanna Steiner

"Can't sleep" © Johanna Steiner

Metal frame and wax objects, 160 × 60 × 60 cm

This frame looks like a bed, these rods look like candles, this space looks like a room. You have to lie with your legs at the end of the bed, on the rods, and then stretch your arms out to the side and stiffen your neck and then spread yourself or lie on the frame like a statue and then you’re illuminated in dark candlelight. Nobody can sleep on this bed unless they do a complete plank.

Johanna Steiner studies sculpture and describes her artistic practice as follows: “Sculptures! Realizing an idea and investigating the possibilities of the material. The process has to happen quickly and often feels like a playful act.”

The work "Can't sleep" was shown as part of the BestOff 2024 exhibition.
