Pigeons were once domesticated by humans and cared for until the end of their useful lives. The descendants of these pigeons now live in cities and are systematically poisoned, killed, or at least driven away. As an artist and activist, I am concerned with this fall from working animal to monster, which is why I wonder: Is there a heaven for city pigeons?
In her artistic practice, Lera Entmayr deals with pigeons as misunderstood city dwellers in both culture-historical and emotional terms. She records her observations of Linz’s city pigeons in her current drawings, photographs, and objects.
The work All Pigeons go to Heaven was shown as part of the BestOFF 2024 exhibition.
