Professor Hilde Goldschmidt Prize 2025

The Professor Hilde Goldschmidt Prize 2025 honors the work of Hall-born artist Janine Weger.

The prize, which was awarded on April 23, 2026 at the Museum Kitzbühel, went to the artist Janine Weger, who was born in Hall and lives and works in Vienna. The jury, chaired by Gert Ammann and including Günther Dankl, Martin Hochleitner, Edelbert Köb and Marion Piffer Damiani, was unanimous in its decision.

Weger studied painting at the University for the Creative Arts in Canterbury and TransArts at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. In her interdisciplinary practice, she combines painting, performance, video and installation. She has already won numerous national and international exhibitions and prizes.

The Goldschmidt Prize is awarded by the foundation of the same name, which goes back to a bequest in the will of the painter Hilde Goldschmidt (1897-1980), who also lived in Kitzbühel. The prize has been awarded every two years since 1997.

Janine Weger, university assistant at the Visual Communication Department, is a visual artist and works at the interface of painting, installation, video and photography. She is responsible for the "Visual Lab" photo studio at the University of Art and Design Linz and offers both practical and theoretical courses. At the same time, she is developing a PhD project that examines the negotiation of truth claims in digital images and critically reflects on their role in contemporary visual discourses.
